These authors exposed whole blood samples from nine donors for 60, 120 and 180 minutes to continuous RFR at 1800 MHz and power densities of 5, 10, and 20 mw/cm². They repeated the experiment 3 months later to test for reproducibility. Exposure had no effect on lymphocyte proliferation indices, but there were considerable differences among different donors and between experiments. Micronucleated cell frequencies varied also between donors and between experiments, but also showed a statistically significant increase with exposure time and applied power density.

The authors suggest that the wide variation in responsiveness among donors might explain some of the varied results in experiments that test the effect of RFR on genotoxicity. They make a plea for additional research to check these findings, and, if they are confirmed, to discover reasons for this variability.
