This group has been
involved in the study of the genotoxic effects of radiofrequency radiation
(RFR) for many years. In the present study they evaluated the effect of
exposing human leukocytes to RFR at 900 MHz frequency for 2 hours, The
SAR was 0.3 W/kg for some experiments and 1 W/kg for others. Temperature
was strictly controlled in the experiment, which was double-blinded. DNA
damage was assessed by the alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE)/comet
assay. Other evidence of damage sought included structural chromosome
aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges, and alteration in the kinetics
of cell proliferation.
No statistically significant
differences were found in exposed samples in comparison with sham exposed
ones.
