In some studies, DNA damage has been reported following exposure to radiofrequency radiation (RFR). Hook and colleagues attempted to replicate the results of one of these studies - by Phillips et al. (5).

They exposed Molt-4 lymphoblastoid cells to four types of RF fields at frequencies and modulations of the type used by wireless communication devices. The frequencies ranged from 813 to 847 MHz. The cells were exposed for periods up to 24 hours using a radial transmission line exposure system. DNA damage was assessed using the single-cell gel electrophoresis assay, and apoptosis was assessed using the annexin V affinity assay.

No statistically significant difference in the level of DNA damage or apoptosis was observed between sham-exposed cells and cells exposed to RFR for any frequency, modulation or exposure time.
