In this study, the authors used 900-MHz fields that closely matched the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). Cells of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae were exposed to the fields at SARs of 0.13 and 1.3 W/kg to determine if the mobile phone fields had any genotoxic potential. For some experiments the exposure also included a known genotoxic compound, methyl methansulfonate. No abnormalities were detected in experiments that were designed to monitor mutation rates and genomic stability.
