The authors exposed human lymphocytes to 1748 MHz, either continuous wave (CW) or phase only modulated wave (GMSK) for 15 minutes. The mean SAR was 2.25 W/kg and the maximum ~5 W/kg. There were no changes in cell proliferation kinetics. However, there was a significant increase in the frequency of micronucleated cells following exposure to the phase-modulated field, but not to the CW field. The authors reported that this was the first time that these changes had been seen with phase-modulated signals.
