Neurinome de l’acoustique : Le neurinome de l’acoustique, également désigné schwannome vestibulaire, est une tumeur bénigne et d’évolution lente du nerf auditif. Son incidence annuelle varie de 1 à 20 cas sur un million (Christensen, 2004). Cette tumeur se manifeste par une perte auditive, des étourdissements et de l’acouphène (bourdonnements dans les oreilles). Un certain nombre d’études ont examiné l’association entre l’apparition de cette tumeur et l’usage du téléphone cellulaire, et ces études sont résumées ci‑après. Cependant, la plupart de ces études ne portent que sur un très faible nombre d’utilisateurs de téléphone cellulaire pendant dix ans et plus. L’étude de Hardell est inhabituelle, en ce qu’elle note une augmentation du risque chez les usagers de cinq ans et plus.
